FTTH Amsterdam Bijlmer D–F–H Buurt

Deployment of a Fibre-Optic Network in Complex Residential Blocks

Investor: KPN
Country: Netherlands

In the high-rise residential blocks of Amsterdam Bijlmer D–F–H buurt, Kodar was entrusted with the task of enabling a modern fibre-optic network for a large number of users. Working in these complexes required a thorough understanding of the buildings’ complex structure, technical limitations, and the diverse needs of residents — from families and students to elderly users.

The first step was to become familiar with the complex multi-storey buildings. We often encountered limited access to installation shafts and overloaded electrical, copper, and coaxial systems, which meant that every intervention had to be precisely planned. Additional challenges included shallow underground levels, soft soil, and the proximity of metro lines and viaducts, requiring the works to be carried out with increased caution and continuous coordination with the relevant authorities.

The administrative procedures of housing corporations represented another layer of complexity. Decisions often applied to multiple buildings at the same time, directly affecting the project timeline. At the same time, our team maintained careful and tailored communication with residents to ensure that the connection process ran smoothly and without delays.

The Bijlmer D–F–H buurt project was not just another FTTH network implementation, but a confirmation of Kodar’s ability to successfully manage technically, administratively, and organisationally demanding projects, with a full understanding of the environment and the users for whom the infrastructure is intended.
