Public Lighting – Monrovia, Liberia
Over 1,000 reinforced concrete poles and 2,500 streetlights – our delivery set a benchmark for future electrification projects across West Africa

Imagine Monrovia illuminated by a new light – at the core of this transformation stands Kodar, delivering essential components for one of the region’s most impactful electrification projects.
As part of the “Monrovia – Consolidation of Transmission and Distribution” project, valued at €35.5 million and executed by MBH Power, Kodar supplied over 1,000 reinforced concrete poles and 2,500 streetlights, providing a durable and reliable foundation for the electrification of more than 38,000 households in Liberia’s capital.
The solution we proposed addressed challenges specific to the region: previously used wooden poles proved unreliable in the humid, salt-laden coastal environment due to rapid degradation. Kodar recommended a transition to reinforced concrete poles, manufactured in Serbia, with a guaranteed service life of at least 50 years – and up to 100 years in practice. These poles are resistant to moisture, pests, rot, and corrosion, and require virtually no maintenance – a crucial advantage in lower-income regions where maintenance budgets are limited.
Designed for voltage levels up to 22 kV, the delivery included suspension, tension, and transformer station poles (22/0.4 kV), allowing full flexibility in the design and construction of both low- and medium-voltage networks. Each pole was engineered to withstand high mechanical loads and harsh coastal weather conditions typical of the Monrovia area.
The project was completed in 2022, and its impact was quickly recognized on the ground: the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) adopted our reinforced concrete poles as the national standard for all future projects.
For Kodar, this project was more than just a delivery – it was a demonstration of how quality, expertise, and technical reliability can shape the development of an entire community – sustainably and for the long term.
