This is the largest individual contract in AD MEPSO’s 20-year history, financed through loan funds provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Our company, Kodar Energomontaža, plays a key role in this complex undertaking as part of a strong regional consortium, together with ELNOS BL d.o.o. and consortium leader Dalekovod d.d. Zagreb.
As part of this landmark project, Kodar Energomontaža has been entrusted with the construction of a key and technically highly demanding section extending from the 400/110 kV Ohrid Substation to the border between North Macedonia and Albania, with a total length of 28.5 kilometres.
In addition to the main transmission line, Kodar will also construct a single-circuit 110 kV connection linking the new Ohrid Substation to the existing Struga Substation–Ohrid 1 Substation transmission line, as well as a double-circuit 2 × 110 kV line connecting the Ohrid Substation to the Češo Glava location, where the system will be connected to the existing Resen Substation–Ohrid 2 Substation and Struga Substation–Ohrid 1 Substation transmission lines.
The construction of this transmission line represents one of the most strategically important energy infrastructure projects in the Western Balkans. As the first electricity interconnection between North Macedonia and Albania, the project will play a key role in establishing a more stable, secure and integrated regional electricity market.
This cross-border project represents the final link in the development of the pan-European Corridor VIII, aimed at establishing a stable East–West energy corridor connecting Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Italy.
In addition to strengthening the transmission network in the south-western part of the region, the project will provide long-term infrastructure capable of accommodating electricity generated from future renewable energy sources.
