Construction of the first environmentally friendly solar power plant in Serbia – “Solarno brdo” has commenced

This is not only environmentally friendly, but also the first agrivoltaic power plant in our region.

We started with the construction of the first environmentally friendly and agrivoltaic solar power plant in Serbia on the slopes in the vicinity of the Sićevo Gorge, at the altitude of 529 meters. The project called Solarno brdo is an important step towards a more sustainable and more efficient use of natural resources.

SE Solarno brdo - početak radova

A 4 MW power plant will cover an area of 5.5 hectares, with the foreseen annual output of about 7,180 MWh, which is enough to supply more than 1,400 households. A significant environmental contribution is also expected through the annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by around 7,000 tons.

What makes this project special is the fact that, in addition to the production of clean energy, the soil under and around solar panels will be used to grow medicinal and aromatic plants — lavender, iris and roses. This agrivoltaic concept enables panels and plants to function in symbiosis: solar panels create a microclimate suitable for growing plants, whereas plants help preserve the soil, attract pollinators and contribute to the local biodiversity.

Construction, electrical installation and telecommunication works are currently being executed: preliminary works on site, structure installation, solar panel assembly, cable routing, installation of transformers and metering system preparation and commissioning.

Solarno brdo is a pioneer project which combines energy efficiency with nature conservation and an innovative approach to land use. Its development lays the foundation for a new generation of solar power plants in Serbia — those that do not simply occupy space, but enhance it.
